Joyce F. Dalzell

August 31, 1938 — January 18, 2026

Litchfield, NH

Joyce F. (Blacker) Dalzell, 87, passed away peacefully in her home on January 18, 2026, surrounded by those who loved her, following a short illness.

Born on August 31, 1938, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Joyce was the daughter of Harold and Mary (Moran) Blacker. From an early age, she carried a quiet kindness that would define her entire life. Many who knew her would later say she was the kindest person they had ever met, a reputation she earned simply by being herself.

Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband, Denis Dalzell; her youngest son, John Cavanaugh; her sister, Mary Kelsey; and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cavanaugh.

She leaves behind her loving children: Gregory Cavanaugh of Bedford, NH; Charles Cavanaugh and his wife Sherrylee of DeLand, FL; Steven Cavanaugh of Litchfield, NH; David Cavanaugh and his wife Donna of Stuart, Florida; Susan Pouliot of Litchfield, NH; and Laura Parker and her husband Brian of Hooksett, NH.

Joyce was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; who affectionately called her “Bah,” and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was especially close to several of her grandchildren, with whom she shared a deep and loving bond. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

A warm soul with a gentle spirit, Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor and an extraordinary love for animals. Often referred to as the cat whisperer, she had an uncanny ability to earn the trust of even the most elusive pets. She loved gardening and found her greatest joy in spending time with her family; quiet moments, shared laughter, and simply being together.

Joyce lived a life rooted in compassion, patience, and love. Her presence made others feel seen and safe, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were lucky enough to know her.

In keeping with her wishes, no services or burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to the National Children’s Scoliosis Foundation, in honor of her enduring generosity and care for others.
