She was born in Manchester on August 8, 1924, the daughter of Yakym and Marya (Wowkanich) Steckowych. She graduated from Manchester High School Central.
She had worked for the State of NH Employment Security Office for 15 years. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a secretary for Lockheed for 29 years.
Kay loved gardening and excelled at Pysanky, a Ukrainian form of Easter Egg decorating. She was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and had sung in the church choir.
Family members include her husband of 62 years, Jean E. Gagnon of Goffstown; one sister, Ann Soucy of Manchester; two brothers, Peter Steckowych of Goffstown and Paul Steckowych of Candia; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, corner of Lowell and Walnut St, Manchester. Burial followed in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
