Katherine B. Hartnett, 90, of Goffstown, died February 17, 2016 at Birch Hill Terrace after a period of declining health.
She was born in Rockport, ME May 12, 1925, the daughter of Everett and Elizabeth Libby.
As a young child she and her parents moved to Manchester where she was educated in Manchester schools. She graduated from Central High School, class of 1943-B. She attended Hesser's Business School and graduated from Westbrook Junior College in 1945 with an Associate Degree as a medical secretary.
For many years she was employed by the Manchester Pediatric Group as their medical secretary and laboratory technician. During the Korean Conflict she served as the Executive Director of the Manchester USO.
She maintained a lasting bond for over 60 years with her fellow sorority sisters in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, during which time she served in a variety of positions including the presidency of her local chapter. Several times during her affiliation she was awarded "Woman of the Year" designation for her many commitments.
Kay loved her Rockport Maine oceanside second home. She enjoyed tennis, boating, Maine schooner sailing, trout fishing, Tall Timber Lodge in Pittsburg, NH, swimming, crafts, cooking, reading and her Dalmatians.
She lived most of her life in Manchester and had been a resident of Goffstown for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Arthur J. Hartnett, Jr., who died in 2011 and by a niece, Susan Duhaime Sibille.
Family members include a sister in-law, Elizabeth "Bette" Duhaime of Manchester; nephews, Stephen Duhaime and wife Susan of Hector, NY and Pierre Sibille of Boca Raton, FL; nieces, Judith Ross and husband Christopher of Hartland, Vt., Cynthia Duhaime-Londberg and husband Robert of Los Angeles, CA, Patti Wade and husband Steven of Concord, NH, and Diana Duhaime of York, ME; many grand nieces, grand nephews, and her Birch Hill Terrace family.
The funeral was held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 335 Smyth Rd., Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
