He was born in Boston, MA on July 31, 1925 to Morton and Jennie (LaButa) McGrath.
He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA and his MBA from Boston College. He lived in Massachusetts at Cambridge, Lexington and Attleboro before moving to Amherst 31 years ago.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Guam and China.
Mr. McGrath was an engineer with Kennecott Copper Corporation for many years. He also worked at Balfour Company and Speidel.
He volunteered with Service Corps Of Retired Executives. He was also an avid woodworker and enjoyed golf.
The family includes his wife of 58 years, Christine (Langer) McGrath of Bedford; three children, Michael McGrath and his wife, Linda, of Hudson, MA, Alan McGrath of Washington, DC and Barbara Bollinger and her husband, Steven, of St. Cloud, MN; four grandchildren; and cousins and nieces.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Morty McGrath and Allen McGrath.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home, 235 Myrtle St., Manchester.
Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester assisted the family with arrangements.
