Kenneth L. O'Brien

October 24, 1934 — April 20, 2025

Kenneth L. O’Brien, 90, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born on October 24 1934 in Newport NH to the late Fredrick and Cynthia (Cane) O’Brien.

Ken graduated from Central High School and then honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, having spent 3 years stationed in Germany. After he returned, he settled and was married in Manchester where he retired as a letter carrier for the North-End of Manchester.

He was a hardworking, creative, loving father and grandfather whose sense of humor would usually catch people by surprise. In his earlier years, he was an outstanding basketball player and later in life enjoyed carpentry, landscaping, golfing and spending time with his family.

He was an active member of American Legion Sweeney Post #2, enjoyed the Country and Rock bands and you could find him on the dance floor with his loving partner Roberta. His kind, thoughtful presence, humor and wisdom will be deeply missed.

Ken is survived by his two daughters: Catherine Ruel and her husband Ronald and Patricia Hamm and her husband Gary of Chester; his brother: Paul and his wife Joanna O’Brien; grandchildren: Colby and Hunter Ruel, Alisha Hamm and her husband Gadiel Chaparro-Hamm; Step-granddaughter, Jessie Hamm; Jessie's children, Elijah and Jaydon; great grandson, Aurelio Chaparro-Hamm; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving partner of 20 years: Roberta Gagnon; and her children: Jim Calnan and his wife Susan and Mark Calnan; and Mark’s children: Blake and Scott.

In addition to his parents, Ken is predeceased by his brother: Frederick O’Brien Jr.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester at 12:30pm. There are no calling hours.
