L. Normand Gauthier

March 28, 1928 — January 25, 2012

Author & Lecturer L. Normand Gauthier passed away January 25, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

"Norm" was born in Southbridge, Mass on March 28, 1928 to Pierre and Cora (Racine) Gauthier.

"Norm" served with the occupation forces in Japan as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne where he was an Information and Education specialist.

He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Prior to moving to Manchester, NH with his wife Alice and son Steven in the early 60's, Gauthier had a number of interesting positions including being a private detective, ballroom dancing instructor, real estate agent, disc jockey on a radio Jazz Show, five years with G.M.A.C. as a field rep. and credit specialist and eight years as a branch manager with G.E.C.C.

He considered his greatest achievement when, as a member of the C.W.V. and with the cooperation of the Union Leader, he created a project of sending a pocket size armor plated bible free of charge to any NH Servicemen in Vietnam and South East Asia.

All a relative or friend had to do was fill out a coupon in the Union Leader with the Serviceman's APO address and send it to the C.W.V. Gauthier's committee then put the bible together and forwarded it to the Serviceman. Over 600 were prepared and sent overseas.

Gauthier also wrote a petition supporting our troops in Vietnam which was signed by over 59,000 N.H. citizens and he, and a Manchester Veterans Council delegation personally delivered it to Vice-President Humphrey at the White House.

Gauthier was also involved as a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board; S.C.O.R.E. volunteer; Board of Directors to the Pastoral Counseling Service; Parents Anonymous; Chairman of the Manchester Republican Committee; Ward One Moderator; Advisor to the Amulet Coffee House; Member of the State Republican Committee; Samaritan Hotline Volunteer; President of the Manchester City Council P. T .A.; member of the N. H. State PIA Advisory Board; Manchester Community Concert Chairman; Manchester Fire Commissioner; Member of the Chapel of St. John of the Mountains Advisory Board and Director of the Society for Psychic Research of NH.

Gauthier was self-employed in Public Relations and Advertising for some twelve years prior to his retirement in 1991.

Gauthier leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Alice (Gale) Gauthier of Mancheser; his son Steven M. Gauthier of Hooksett; his sister Pauline Julien of Southbridge, MA;, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
