Lillian Ruth (Stanchfield) Dalrymple, 100, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 20, 2020.
Ruth was born on November 19, 1920 in Lowell, MA, the daughter of Sarah Mable (Ferguson) and John Leon Stanchfield. She attended schools in Carlisle and Chelmsford, MA and graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1937.
After attending a secretarial training school, her first three jobs were at Lowell General Hospital, the Port of Embarkation in South Boston and Paley Construction Company in Lowell. Later, she served as Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of the Lexington School District, from which position she retired in 1982. In retirement, she volunteered for the Lexington Historical Society and Emerson Hospital in Concord.
She married Franklin Dalrymple on January 5, 1952. They had three children together, making their home in Arlington, MA and then Lexington, MA where they moved in 1956.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband in 1966; her sister, Anna in 2000 and her brother-in-law, Ira Goding in 2018.
She lived in Lexington until 2015, when she moved to Bentley Commons in Bedford, NH and then to Carlyle Place, also in Bedford. She enjoyed meeting new people, and appreciated the friendly and skillful attention of the staff at both locations.
Ruth loved her flower gardens, the ocean, cooking, knitting, reading, and oil painting, as well as ballroom dancing, which was a true favorite of hers. She was a devoted mother to her children, Deborah Heinold of Hudson, MA and Susan Griffith and Peter Dalrymple, both of Bedford, NH. Her gentleness, wisdom and loving kindness will be greatly missed by them and by their spouses, David Heinold, Lanny Griffith and Monica Dumouchel, and by her granddaughter, Martha Dalrymple of Dover, NH. She also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will take place on Monday, December 28 in Lexington, MA.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Bentley Commons, Carlyle Place and Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to Ruth.
Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, NH is assisting the family with arrangements.
