He was born in Sanford, ME, on February 15, 1933, the son of Leo and Grace (Littlefield) St. Cyr. He was raised and educated in the Manchester, NH area and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central.
Prior to graduating high school, Leo joined the US Army and began a military career which spanned over 22 years. Tours of duty included combat during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, as well as serving six years in post-War Germany. He earned numerous awards for his service and bravery, including two purple hearts, two bronze stars and the Army Commendation medal.
He had served as treasurer and quarter master for the NH State Veterans of Foreign Wars and was also active in various educational and service programs throughout his life. He was a life member of both the Derry VFW Post 4424 as well as the Disabled American Veterans. Leo enjoyed gardening and fishing, but found his greatest joy spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Members of his family include his wife of 35 years, Patricia C. (Donovan) St. Cyr of Derry; one son, Derek St. Cyr and his wife Michelle of Candia; two grandchildren, Hadley and Kiley St. Cyr, both of Derry; three sisters, Gladys and Glenna St. Cyr, and Joyce Hamel, all of Manchester; nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was recently predeceased by his brother, Arthur St. Cyr.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday January 19, 2008 in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock St, Manchester.
