Leonard R. Andrade, 78, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Assonet, MA, died peacefully on January 12, 2021, at Catholic Medical Center with his family by his side.
Born in Acushnet, MA on November 12, 1942, he was the son of the late Everett and Christine (Morra) Andrade.
Leonard proudly served his country in the US Army as a Vietnam Veteran before being honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist Fourth Class in 1969.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Martha's Vineyard Nantucket Steamship Authority for 25 years, where he held several positions throughout his career.
Leonard loved building things and he could fix anything you put in front of him, or would find out how to fix it. He loved being outside and working in his garden. He always had a prized lawn and wouldn't allow anyone else to take care of it except for him. As his health declined, his family tried to help, and he would instruct them on how to tend to it. He had a passion for cars, specifically loving corvettes, and was able to restore a few and bring them back to life in his earlier years.
He was a man of very few words but, if he liked you, you knew it and he would engage for hours. He would help anyone who needed it and give the shirt of his back if needed. The light of his life for the past 6 years was his peanut Grace. The two of them were best buddies and shared everything together from puzzle making, drawing, and building things, to being snack thieves together. She made him smile like no one else could. Above all else, he will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Leonard loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all.
Leonard was predeceased by his son Jeffrey J. Branco.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Patricia E. Andrade of Manchester, NH; their daughter Sherrylynn Andrade and her husband Nathaniel Matthews of Merrimack; along with his granddaughter Grace-Elizabeth Matthews (AKA Peanut); his brother, Everett Andrade and wife of Dartmouth, MA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a son, Leonard R. Andrade, Jr. of Florida; and his children.
