He was born in Manchester July 31, 1921 to Aime and Mary (Bienvenue) Simard and had lived in Pinardville most of his life. He was a longtime communicant of the former St. Edmond Church and currently a member of Parish of the Transfiguration. He was also a devoted member of the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood.
Leo was employed with Evangeline Shoe until he joined the Navy in 1942 having served in the Navy's Fleet Air Wing 7 Squadron as a cook. Honorably discharged in 1945 he then was employed with Amoskeag Beverage Co. Over the course of the next 40 years he held a variety of positions within the organization including truck driver, route supervisor and buyer.
Leo served many years as a volunteer firefighter in Pinardville. Active in the community after retiring he assisted at the polls during elections and volunteered at Prime Time. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, walking and bowling.
Leo was lovingly attended to by his granddaughter, Nancy Doherty and her family, in his final years.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Annette (Forest) Simard in 2003, his son Ronald Aime Simard in 1996, his daughter Muriel Lillian Simard in 1946, his daughter in-law, Gayle M. Simard in 2010, and his sisters Lillian Desrocher in 2003 and Rita Pouliot in 2010.
He leaves three children, Roger Simard of Manchester, Richard Simard and his wife, Theresa, of Candia, Marie Drouin and her husband, Marc, of Manchester; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Parish of the Transfiguration, corner of Kelley and Youville Sts, Manchester. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
