Lillian L. (Roy) Maltais, 91, of Manchester, died January 31, 2015 at Elliot Hospital after a period of declining health.

She was born in Manchester on January 6, 1924 to Jean and Marie-Anne (Soucy) Roy. She graduated from St. Anthony High School and was a lifelong resident of Manchester. She also summered at Hampton Beach for many years.

During World War II she was one of the first women to work as a welder at the Quincy Naval Shipyard in Massachusetts.

She was married to Joseph G. Maltais, who died in 2002, and was very supportive of him in his many work related and political endeavors.

Lillian enjoyed bowling at Lakeside Lanes, oil painting, knitting, crocheting and cooking at family gatherings. She also volunteered making deliveries for Meals on Wheels in the Manchester area.

The family includes six children, Suzanne Karatzas of Nahant, MA, Philippe Maltais and his wife, Sheryl, of Seabrook, Denis Maltais of Manchester, Ronald Maltais of Las Vegas, NM, John Maltais and his wife, Jenny, of Framingham, MA and Mark Maltais of New York, NY; six grandchildren, Edmond, Lanni, Joe, Jordan, Adam and Nathaniel; two great grandchildren, Alexa and Vincent; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Ste. Marie Church, 478 Notre Dame Ave., Manchester. After cremation, burial will be in the spring at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
