Lionel J. Carle

Lionel J. Carle, Sr., 95, of Merrimack, died April 14, 2016 at Villa Crest Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.
He was born in Grand-Mère, Quebec on October 2, 1920, the son of Eugene and Woulma Carle. Lionel was educated in the Pinardville School system. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp., in the 897th Air Engineering Squadron. He served during the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, at Omaha Beach and was honorably dischared at the rank of Corporal in 1945.
Lionel worked for the Laborer Union for Local #668 for 50 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked for TJ McCarthy Inc. for many years. Lionel loved to travel with his wife. He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed playing cards. He was a kind hearted man and a hard worker. He loved his grandchildren deeply and was a great dad. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Lionel was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eugenie T. Carle, in 2009 and brother Roland J. Carle in 1999.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda D. Brackett and husband William of McEwen, TN; one son, Lionel J. Carle, Jr. and wife Lorraine of Merrimack; three grandsons, Lance, Lee and Lane Carle; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, 265 S. Main St., Manchester. Committal prayers with military honors followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
