Louis A. Durette

Louis A. Durette, 67, of Hampton Beach and Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Manchester, died December 17, 2002, at the Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach following a brief illness. He attended Manchester Schools and took courses at St. Anselm College, Babson College and numerous other professional training sessions throughout the United States.

He served 25 years on the Manchester Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1984. Following his retirement, he was elected the Sheriff of Hillsborough County (NH) and served 8 years. Throughout the years, he served as: President of the Manchester Lions Club; President of the Manchester Police Relief Association; a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus; a member of the Executive Committee for the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council; a member of the Legislative Committee for the National Sheriff's Association; a member of the Manchester Highway Safety Committee; and a member of the Manchester Riverfest Committee. During his career, he was a member of the Manchester Police Department's first canine unit and the Sergeant in charge of the Special Response Team. He was also a member of the department's Honor Guard and coordinated several presidential visits to the City of Manchester.

Family members include his wife of 48 years, Lucille (Racette) Durette, of Hampton Beach, NH and Boynton Beach, FL; two sons: Arthur Durette and his wife Julie of Pembroke: Paul Durette and his wife Tracey of Massachusetts; granddaughters: Danielle, Cassandre, and Sarah; grandsons: Tyler and Jonathan; a brother, Roger Durette of Boynton Beach; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lucille, a brother, Mike, and a daughter, Michele.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday December 23, 2002 in St. Augustin Church, 383 Beech St., Manchester. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery.
