Louis R. Huggins, 79, of Manchester died November 3, 2002 in his residence after a sudden illness.

Born in Pembroke on March 7, 1923, he was the son of Samuel O. and Claudia M. (Cote) Huggins. He lived in New York State for many years before moving to Manchester in 1964.

He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and saw active duty at the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Huggins worked for the Grand Union Company and spent many years in the New York State division. He then was the financial auditor and controller for the Champagne division of Grand Union Supermarkets in New Hampshire. He later was controller for Harvest Markets in Massachusetts for two years.

He was a former president of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a former treasurer of the New Hampshire Highland Games. In addition, he was an Organizing Governor for the New Hampshire Society of the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America.

Mr. Huggins was a member of the National Society of the Sons of Colonial New England, the Society of Colonial Wars in New Hampshire, the Hereditary Order of the First Families of Massachusetts, the New England Ancestral Alliance, and the Piscataqua Pioneers.

He was a New England Convener for the Clan McDuff Society of America and was also a member of the American-Canadian Geneological Society and the New Hampshire Historical Society.

He was married to Cecile S. (Lamontagne) Huggins who died in July of this year. He was also predeceased by a son, Brian L. Huggins in 1982.

The family includes a son, Dean A. Huggins of Uxbridge, MA; a granddaughter, Anna G. Huggins of Uxbridge, MA; two sisters, Bertha Huggins and Vera DesRuisseaux both of Manchester; nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Friday November 8, 2002 in the funeral home. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, 765 Brown Ave., Manchester.
