Louise Mary (Ganem) Ashooh, 91, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2016 in Derry, NH surrounded by her children. "Lulu" was born on December 23, 1924, the fifth of 10 children of Joseph and Latify Ganem. She was predeceased in 1986 by her beloved husband of 39 years, Emile J. Ashooh.
A multi-talented woman and mother of seven children, Lulu lived nearly all of her life in Manchester. She graduated from Manchester Central High School Class of 1943 (B) and was employed by Textron in Manchester, manufacturing military supplies during World War II. After marrying Emile in 1947, she lived in Delaware and New Jersey but returned to Manchester and became active in school and civic affairs. She was a volunteer for many years in the Blessed Sacrament parish in South Manchester and later at the St. Catherine parish in the city's North End. She volunteered for many years and served on the boards of the Manchester Girls Club, United Way of Greater Manchester, and the Salvation Army. She was also active in supporting the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, as well as Sacred Heart Hospital. She was active in Republican politics as well, volunteering and hosting several candidates, and from 1995 to 2001 she served on the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women.
Louise was well known as an excellent cook, especially of Lebanese food, and as a talented seamstress and gardener. She enjoyed golfing, reading, and was an avid and proficient duplicate bridge player. She derived her greatest joy from her family, to which she was devoted.
She is survived by her seven children, Elias E. (Skip) Ashooh and his wife Gail Fisher, Barbara A. M. Maloney and her husband Richard J. Maloney, both of Manchester, Nicholas J. Ashooh of Stamford, CT and his wife Brenda, Marylou A. Lazos of Derry and her husband Harry, Emile J. Ashooh, Jr. of Manchester, Carolyn Farley of Townsend, MA and her husband Jim, and Richard E. Ashooh of Bedford and his wife Lori. She is also survived by her brothers Wilfred J. Ganem of Ballston Lake, NY, and Edward Ganem of Manchester; and by her sisters Mae Nasser and Mary-Ann LaJeunesse of Manchester; and close relatives Elsie and Betty Ashooh of Virginia; as well as by her 21 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Emile, Louise was predeceased by her sisters Nora Noyes and Matilda Ganem, and brothers John, Philip and Donald Ganem.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Louise's life was held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Puritan Backroom Conference Center. A memorial reception followed.
