She was born in Dorchester, MA July 4, 1925 the daughter of Chandler and Helen (Anderson) Bowlby. She grew up in Dorchester and was a graduate of Dorchester High School. She lived in Tyngsboro, MA for several years and in Dunstable, MA for 35 years before moving to Bedford, NH 15 years ago.
As a young woman Louise worked for John Hancock in Boston with a brief tenure at John Hancock in San Francisco. She would also hold positions at the US Post Office in Dunstable, MA, as well as a teacher's aide, and School Kitchen Superintendent. Louise was also very active while she was raising her children with Girl Scouts, PTA, and church activities.
Louise was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church.
She was married to George W. Shipley who died in 1992.
She leaves six children, Karen J. Booth and her husband, Donald, of Londonderry, NH, Brian W. Shipley of Westford, MA, Gail L. Levesque and her husband, William, of Bedford, NH, Lloyd C. Shipley and his wife, Janet, of Wakefield, MA, Scott B. Shipley of Bedford, NH and Cheryl A. Browne and her husband, Charles, of Summerfield, NC; 23 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Bedford Presbyterian Church, 4 Church Rd., Bedford, NH. Burial followed in Central Cemetery, Westford Rd., Dunstable, MA at 2 p.m.
