Madeleine A. Pluff White

October 30, 1931 — February 18, 2016

Madeleine A. (Pluff) White, 84, a long time resident of Manchester, passed away peacefully February 18, 2016 at Hanover Hill Nursing Home with Compassionate Care Hospice. She was born on October 30, 1931 in Concord, NH. Madeleine was the daughter of the late Earle W. and Margaret (Berryman) Pluff. She was the loving wife of Joseph A. White a retired draftsman of Lyons Iron Works and packaging at the Merrimack Budweiser Plant.
Madeleine was a graduate of St. John High School, Concord, member of the Class of 1949. Madeleine graduated from Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing and Mount Saint Mary College as a Registered Nurse in 1952. She married the love of her life Joseph at St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord on April 24, 1954. They have renewed their wedding vows three times on their 25th, 35th and 50th anniversaries among family and friends and have been happily married and devoted to each other for 61 years.
Mrs. White worked as a General Staff Nurse in Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Private Duty. She and her husband worked as volunteers for Swift Water Council Girl Scouts and South Little League Baseball. They sang in their Church Choir and Mrs. White taught Catechism Classes. She became a member of the Molly Stark Chapter NSDAR February 3, 1984 her daughter and granddaughter became members' years later.
Mrs. White held several Chapter Offices such as Corresponding Secretary 1985-1987, Recording Secretary 1987-1989 and Vice Regent 1991-1993. She chaired several Chapter Committees such as American History Month 1985-1989, Chapter Centennial Celebration 1991-1992 and Chapter Yearbook and supplement 1991-1993.
Mrs. White held several NH State Offices such as Corresponding Secretary 1988-1989 and Recording Secretary 1989-1992. She chaired several State Committees such as Americanism DAR Manual for Citizenship 1986-1989, helped to organize the New Hampshire State Chorus and holds membership in the State Officers Club.
Mrs. White was the National Vice Chairman Northeast Division for National Defense 1989-1992 for the NSDAR in Washington, DC. She was a member of the National DAR Chorus for four years and holds membership in the National Vice Chairman's Club.
Madeleine enjoyed knitting Afghans, hosting Retired Nurse's Coffee, swimming and traveling with her husband and family to historical landmarks such as Gettysburg, PA and Williamsburg, VA. She loved to spend time roasting marshmallows by a campfire when they traveled to favorite campgrounds at Lake George, North Conway and Hampton Beach.
In addition to her parents a sister Lurlyne Frances Plummer predeceased her. Her loving family includes her husband and best friend of 61 years, Joseph A. White of Manchester; a daughter Judith D. Ashworth, and her husband, Peter, of Weare; a son David M. White, and his wife Lori, of Manchester; a grandson Thomas M. White and granddaughter Rebecca A. White, both of Manchester.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1 E Union St., Goffstown, NH, followed by committal in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford, NH.
