In the early morning of August 26, 2015, Madeline Mary Basnett passed away peacefully of natural causes at Birch Heights Retirement Community in Derry, NH, where she lived with her loving husband, Edward Roy Basnett. Madeline was 88 years old.
Madeline was born in the town of Grand Falls on the island of Newfoundland on October 29, 1926. She was the third youngest of six sons and five daughters born to Ida Jane (Parsons) and Edward Flood.
At the age of eighteen Madeline moved to Montreal, in the province of Quebec, Canada, where she worked as a nanny. She then moved to Niagra Falls, Ontario where she met and fell in love with Edward Roy Basnett, whom she married there on July 20, 1946. In 1955 the family moved to a home in North Tonawanda, in Niagra County, New York where they lived until Edward's career at Moore Business Forms brought the family to Manchester, NH in 1968. Madeline worked for more than twenty years at the iconic Jordan Marsh / Macy's department store in Bedford, NH .
Madeline is preceded in death by her parents, Ida Jane and Edward Flood and nine of her ten brothers and sisters.
Madeline is survived by her sister Margaret, Mrs. Walter Cebnyski; her children, Patricia Ann, Mrs. Michael Frank, Barbara Marie, Mrs. Wayne Jackson, Diane Lynn McCormick, and Douglas Edward Basnett and his wife Louise; her twelve grandchildren, Michael P. Frank, Lynn M. Wright, David E. McCormick, Brian T. Frank, Kevin T. Pieper, Jill R. Berube, Ben F. Jackson, Nathan W. Jackson, Nathan M. Kersting, Conor T. McCormick, Kristen R. Zizzi, and Kevin P. McCormick; and her 15 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Madeline is the matriarch of a large and special family who can trace their characteristic kindness and uniquely positive outlook on life back to her influence and guidance. Without Nanny, none of that would be possible, and because of her presence in our lives, anything is possible.
We miss you Nanny.
