Sr. Margaret J. "Peggy" Crosby, 82, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Boston, MA, died March 12, 2016 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester, MA. She was born in Boston, MA on May 21, 1933 to Robert and Marie (Danihy) Crosby. She entered her religious profession in 1950, making her first vows in 1953 and perpetual vows in 1958.
Sr. Peggy earned a bachelor's degree in English from Emmanuel College and a master's degree in education from Boston State College. She was a teacher, principal and associate superintendent for the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Schools. She was director of Community Services, and Immigration and Refugees Office for the Diocese of Manchester as well as a teacher for Notre Dame Center, Lawrence, MA. Sr. Peggy was awarded Outstanding Educator of the Year from Emmanuel College in 1988, and Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice in 2001.
She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Joseph Crosby; and sister-in-law, Patricia Crosby.
The family includes one sister, Mary Jackson and husband Robert of Norwood, MA; one brother Edward Crosby and wife Nancy of The Woodlands, TX; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews; and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford, NH. Burial took place on Friday, March 18, 2016 in St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 LaGrange St., W. Roxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Photovoltaic Project of the Sisters of Notre Dame, 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA, 01938.
