Marguerite Y. “Peggy” Butka, 86, of Manchester passed away peacefully in hospice care at the Inn at Deerfield on August 2, 2022.

            She was a lifelong resident of Manchester, born January 23, 1936, the daughter of Eugene and Antoinette (Plantier) Roux.  She graduated from St. Marie High School and attended Hesser College.

            Peggy was a talented musician who loved to play the piano and organ from a young age and taught lessons to children for many years.  She had worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 38 years and was the office manager for several years prior to her retirement in 1996.  She also loved spending winters with her husband in Gulfport, FL for 17 years.

            Peggy was a devoted parishioner of St. Hedwig Parish in Manchester since 1965.  She had lived in the same house she bought with her husband for the last 57 years until she was placed in hospice care 3 months ago.

            She was predeceased by her mother who died in 2003 and her father who passed in 1972.   She was also predeceased by her sister Jacqueline Thibault who died in 1997.

            Family members include her husband of 61 years, William Butka of Manchester; her daughter, Judith Van Kalken and husband Dan of Dunbarton; her son, Jim Butka of Manchester; her daughter, Jennifer Kaminski and husband Chester of Manchester; grandchildren, Dan Van Kalken and wife Julie Chaffee of Nashua, Justin Van Kalken and fiancée Melissa Hodgdon of Manchester; great-grandchildren, Rose and Duke Van Kalken.

            Calling hours at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, corner of North St, will be Friday, August 12th from 5 to 7 pm.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 13th at 10 am in St. Hedwig Church, Manchester.  Burial will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Bedford.

            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
