Marguerite C. Longo

December 3, 1925 — September 21, 2011

Marguerite C. Longo died comfortably in her home on September 21, 2011. She was born on December 3, 1925 in Lawrence, Mass. to Cornelious and Margaret (McCann) Scannell. One of five children, she attended Lawrence High School where she was voted "The Most Popular Girl" in her class and where, at the

age of 14, she met the love of her life Carl J. Longo. They married in 1945 and after World War Two, moved from Biloxi, Mississippi, back to Lawrence and Methuen where they began their family. In 1957 they settled in Manchester, NH where they began the Longo Family furniture legacy remaining President of the C.A. Hoitt Furniture Company until her death.

Peggy was a kind and gentle soul, beautiful inside and out, dearly loved by all who knew or met her. She lived a life of simple devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, "fur babies" and The Blessed Mother. She loved working in her beautiful gardens at her home in Ogunquit, Maine known as "The Jewel of The Marginal Way". She loved red cardinals, mourning doves, sunrises over the Atlantic, angels, bears, watching Animal Planet and singing with her daughters. She was a creative and brilliant homemaker providing great comfort and care to her family and friends throughout her lifetime.

Predeceased by her husband Carl, her brother Neil Scannell, her sister-in-law Ann Scannell, grand-baby Michele Vallee, and best friends Loretta Duffy and Tess Wills, she is survived by her son Brian Longo, his wife Eileen and grandsons Carl and Anthony, her daughter Carla Longo, her life partner Sonja Flores and granddaughter Theresa Cardinale-Longo, her son Mark Longo, grandson Matthew and granddaughter Lauren, her son Stephen Longo, granddaughter Brie-Ann Martel and the blessing of her first great-grandchild Lacey, her daughter Nancy Longo, granddaughter Danielle Vallee, and grandson Christopher Kiley, her sister Joan Kalil, husband Al and nephews, David, Bruce and Jeffrey, her brother Jackie Scannell, nephews Larry Sean and niece Kathy, her brother Billy Scannell, her sister-in-law Rose Scannell and nephew Chris, her amazing centurion Aunti Kay Phair and cousins Alan, Gerry, Pat, Bobby and Kathy, and her loving and devoted "fur-babies" CJ, Spanky, and Chester.

In addition to family, we express our love and appreciation to the many special people in her life including Linda "Cooch" Couture and Donna Guimont, Josie Cardinale, Jay Spielberg and family, and the loyal and dedicated employees of the CA Hoitt and Longos Furniture Companies. Sincere gratitude to Dr. Alvarez, the staff at Elliot Senior Health, and Winnie Watley for their care and support through the years.

With grateful hearts we thank Laurie Wilkinson, Susan Murry, and the team of devoted caregivers from VNA Home Hospice for making it possible for our mother to pass with grace and dignity in her home surrounded by those she loved.

Mum, Nana, Auntie, Cousin, Marguerite, Peggy... you touched us all in so many ways, loving and funny... kind and courageous... our lives will never be the same.
