It is with great sadness that the family of Mark Earle "Hutch" Hutchinson announces his passing on January 2, 2025, at the age of 77, following a sudden cardiac arrest. Mark was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mark was born on February 8, 1947 in Lowell, MA to Earle and Mildred (Shinkwin) Hutchinson. A devoted son, Mark cared for his parents checking in on them almost daily at their family house on Meetinghouse Road. After they passed, he moved to the family home and resided there for the rest of his life.
Anyone who knew Mark knew his passion for the following: Boston sports (Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots); Sullivan Tires ("Why go anywhere else?"); driving (Audis, Volvos, Saabs); and his grandchildren (Brewster, Sadie, Caden). If you ever had a question about sports trivia, Mark was the go-to person for the answer. While watching a game, he often texted his color commentary to family.
Mark earned a bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1969 and became a lifelong Friar fan. For many years, Mark worked as a sales executive in the semiconductor industry. He loved to entertain his customers and closed many deals on the golf course. For over twenty years he was a member of the Nashua Country Club and shot with a handicap of five. Along with his family and friends, golf was his life.
When Mark met Mike Fitzgibbons, it changed the trajectory of both his personal and professional life. He began his second career at age 55 with Sullivan Tire starting as a retail salesman. After his most recent promotion, he managed the business development team throughout the Northeast. Mark’s enthusiasm and keen problem-solving skills helped thousands of customers over the years. He treated his customers and colleagues as family. And his employers, the Sullivan family, loved him like one of their own.
When he wasn’t working, Mark loved to putter in his barn fixing and building things. He was happiest with a ball game on, grilling a great steak with family and friends. He had a contagious zest for life and was not afraid to try new things. After a twenty-year hiatus, last January he put on a pair of skis and went out for the day. It made for a great photo and story that he loved to tell.
Wherever Mark went, he made a friend (and would often try to sell them a set of tires). His blue eyes twinkled when he laughed, which was often. While driving, he sang along with ‘60s music. He’d drive anyone anywhere, and his passengers would always howl with laughter listening to stories from his past. His sharp brain did not leave out any details. He could remember the exact time, date and location of all milestones in his life.
His family, friends and colleagues will continue to carry Mark’s spirit with them forever.
Mark is survived by his wife, Christine (Zumbach) Hutchinson; his three children: Matthew (Sara) Hutchinson, Taylor Hutchinson (and his dog Azul), and Tori Hutchinson; three grandchildren; and his brother, Kent (Joan) Hutchinson.
