Martha Beers

January 23, 1923 — August 19, 2021

Martha Beers, 98, of Bedford, died August 19, 2021 at Bedford Falls Assisted Living after a period of declining health.

She was born in Worcester, MA on January 23, 1923 to Arthur and Adele Parry. Martha served in the US Navy from 1944-46 and the Naval Reserves until 1949. She married William Beers and they lived in Wilmington, MA before moving to Bedford in 1971.

Martha was a wonderful, loving, compassionate woman who was always reaching out to help others - family, friends, and those she didn't know. She helped immigrants from Eastern Europe learn English and volunteered at the Woburn Street School in Wilmington and the Bedford Public Library. She loved her family, nature, reading and learning. Martha loved to walk, and until very recently could be found speeding along with her walker in the corridors of Bedford Falls!

Martha leaves her warmth and love behind with her family: three daughters, Susan Beers and her husband Gerry Sherman, of Milford, Barb Beers and her partner, Chris Friedman, of Concord, Teresa Apgar and her husband, Scott, of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren, Emily Kurdzo, Caroline Lowery, Eric Apgar, Tyler Apgar, and four great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Beers; grandson, Nathan Griffith; son-in-law, Scott Griffith; and siblings Madeline Crocker, John Parry, and Dot Esposito.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Bedford Falls and Brookhaven Hospice for the loving care they provided. There will be a private family gathering and burial to remember Martha in October. Honoring Martha is best done through acts of kindness in your community, particularly those that share her love of reading and concern for others.

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester is assisting the family with arrangements.
