Mary Alexakos, fondly known as "Yia Yia", passed away at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home at the age of 100 years.
Born in Lowell, MA on November 3rd, 1917, she was the daughter of George and Angeline (Giannaris) Kremidas. Mary recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her fondest memories were her shopping adventures with Diane Lavallee, her closest friend. Mary was blessed to have loving and caring people in her life. During WWII, Mary contributed to the war effort, making parachutes for the troops. Mary was a lifelong member of the Transfiguration Church Philoptochos Society.
She is survived by her son Philip Alexakos and wife Ann; son George Alexakos; her grandchildren, Philip, Steven, Angeline and Alexander J. Alexakos; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Sophie, Abby, Allison, Peter and Ava.
A graveside committal service was held on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
