Mary M. (Monaghan) Doherty, 91, formerly of Holly Ave., Manchester, died May 12, 2006 at a local healthcare facility after a period of declining health.

She was born in Manchester on October 26, 1914, the daughter of Patrick J. and Delia (Reddington) Monaghan. She attended McDonald Grammar School and was a 1932 graduate of Manchester High School Central.

Prior to retirement, she had been employed for many years by Catholic Charities. During WWII, she had also worked as a secretary for a flight surgeon at Grenier Field. It was at this time she met her future husband, Michael A. Doherty.

Mary loved bingo, playing cards, and spending time at Hampton Beach. She was a gentle person who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was especially devoted to her Catholic faith and a dedicated parishioner of St. Anne-St. Augustin Parish.

She was predeceased by her husband, M/Sgt. Michael A. Doherty in 1951 when he was serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. With the help of her family, she worked very hard to raise her young children after the death of her husband. She leaves behind two sons, John F. Doherty and his wife Judith M. Doherty of Nashua, Joseph P. Doherty and his partner Richard Kroetsch of San Francisco; one daughter, Kathleen D. Whitham and her husband Walden G. Whitham Jr. of Richmond, NH; four grandchildren, Tara Greene Saraceno, Kathan Bryn Doherty, Rylan Michael Whitham, and Devin Coates Whitham; one brother, John F. Monaghan of Manchester; one sister, Catherine "Kay" Monaghan Moran and her husband John F. Moran of Manchester; several nephews, nieces, and cousins in New York, New Jersey, and Ireland; She was also predeceased by a brother Peter J. Monaghan and a sister, Margaret Monaghan.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Anne-St. Augustin Church on Monday May 15, 2006. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
