Mary Elizabeth Hartnett, 83, but did not look her age, died peacefully January 22, 2018. She passed in the comfort of her home with the support of her four children and their spouses after a short battle with cancer. She kept her sense of humor throughout her life right to the very end.
She was born in Cambridge, Mass to Alma and Florance Sullivan and was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Cambridge Latin High and began work at the Telephone company until she married Lt. John D. Hartnett in 1956 and began her spousal service in the Air Force. In 1957 she traveled by boat to Japan where she had two boys, John and Mark. While stationed in Spain she had Lynne and then in California she had Greg. She was active in volunteer work serving as President of CCD and working in a base thrift shop. When Lt. Colonel Hartnett retired in 1978 the family moved to NH. She courageously began a second act in the workforce at age 50 and ultimately spent 16 years at Jordan Marsh/Macy's where she made many friends who recall her easy and frequent laughter. She enjoyed outings to the New England countryside with her friends.
Mary had five grandchildren and took great pleasure in her relationships with them. She cared for three of them, Ashleigh, Ryan and Brendan, as toddlers and after school for many years. She loved the beach, eating delicious foods, watching old movies, her family and the many birds that visited her bird feeder. Over the years, she enjoyed vacations with her children including Italy, Ireland, beaches from Florida to New Hampshire and even camping in the White Mountains. Mary was always there for her children in whatever way needed and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children John J. Hartnett and his wife Ursula Hartnett of Goffstown, Mark R. Hartnett and his wife Stacey F. Hartnett of Amesbury, MA, Lynne A. Hartnett and her husband Paul J. Camire of Dunbarton, Gregory S. Hartnett and his wife Angela M. Hartnett of Goffstown; grandchildren, Lindy K. Hogue of Indianapolis, IN, John B. Hartnett of Salt Lake City, UT, Ashleigh Hartnett, Ryan Hartnett and her favorite, Brendan Hartnett of Goffstown, NH; her great-grandson, Lachlan C. Hogue of Indianapolis, IN; her sister, Margaret Pieroni of Marshfield, MA and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service was celebrated on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm Street, Manchester. Committal Prayers followed in the mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
