Mary G. Nicholas

Mary G. (Walker) Nicholas, 75, of Litchfield, died March 8, 2018 at Catholic Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Boston, MA on June 6, 1942 to Leo and Mary (Conway) Walker. She lived in Litchfield since 1970.

Mary worked at Jordan Marsh Company for 32 years and at St. Catherine School in Manchester for many years. She served as trustee of funds and was a member of the Recreation Committee, both for the town of Litchfield. She also served on the board of the Hillcrest Cemetery Association.

She was active at St. Francis of Assisi Church including coordinator of volunteers for New Horizons for NH, parish council, lector, Eucharistic minister, coordinator of lay ministers, school board member and head of the social committee.

She enjoyed summer vacations in York Beach, ME, traveling and time spent with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Paul M. Nicholas in 2007.

The family includes two daughters, Susan M. Nicholas of Manchester and Diane M. Matthews of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Jocelyn Nicholas, Jonathan Matthews and Will Nicholas; three great grandchildren, Leila, Jackson and Natalia; a brother, James Walker and his wife, Mary, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 9 St. Francis Way, Litchfield. Burial will be later in the spring at Hillcrest Cemetery in Litchfield.
