Matthew J. Coughlin

June 28, 1961 — June 29, 2016

Matthew J. Coughlin, age 55, of Candia, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness. He and his wife had selected rural New Hampshire to raise their horses, dog, chickens, rabbits and koi.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Marcia Trudeau and two children, James M. Coughlin and Laura E. Coughlin. He is also survived by his parents, William J. and Marguerite R. Coughlin of Beverly, MA; three siblings, William J. Coughlin, Kathleen M. Kalentkowski and Cheri Coughlin; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Matt's family moved to Beverly, MA in 1961. He was educated in the Beverly public school system and graduated from Beverly High School in 1979. In preparation for his eventual appointment to West Point, Class of 1984, he spent a year in 1980 at New Hampton School. Following his appointment to West Point, Matthew graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a focus in law enforcement.
His passion for law enforcement led him on a journey through the Hooksett, NH Police Department and culminated in a 27 year career as a senior special agent with the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Matt was an avid ocean fisherman, especially when his friend, Paul Delorenzo, was paying for the gas. In high school he played football, basketball and track and was co-captain of the 1979 football team. He was a member of the Manchester Ancient Order of Hibernians. He enjoyed beekeeping and his favorite pastime was working his gentleman's farm whilst riding his John Deere tractor.
