Maurice P. Bois

Maurice P. Bois, a former U.S. Attorney and retired New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice, 85, of Bedford died January 13, 2003 in Bedford.

Born in Manchester on August 14, 1917, he was the son of Thomas J. and Hattie (Wurtele) Bois. He lived most of his life in Manchester.

He was a graduate of St. Anselm College in 1939, then attended Fordham Law School for two years. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an artillery training officer. He later earned his law degree from Boston University.

Mr. Bois became a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association in 1946 and worked with his father in a practice of law until 1954. He was named a U.S. District Attorney by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954. He returned to private practice from 1961 to 1973.

In 1973, he was appointed to the New Hampshire Superior Court by Gov. Meldrim Thompson. Gov. Thompson then appointed him to the New Hampshire Supreme Court in 1976, where he served until his retirement in the early 1980's.

He was married to Yeteve Vezina Bois who died in 1998.

The family includes four children, Maurice P. Bois Jr. of Livingston, TX, Judith R. Cheron and Pamela B. Sleeper both of Manchester and Dr. Richard T. Bois of West Chester, PA; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Jeannette Bernier of Bedford and Corinne Cote of Manchester; a brother, Paul Bois of Manchester; cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday January 18, 2003 in St. Joseph Cathedral, corner of Pine and Lowell streets, Manchester. Encryptment was in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
