Melissa Lyon Flint, 63, of Amherst, NH, passed away on September 27, 2018 at her home. Melissa was born on April 11, 1955 in Trenton, NJ to H.B. and Mary Jane Lyon. She was the beloved baby sister to her older siblings Pat and Thomas. Raised in Lawrenceville, New Jersey she was well-loved in her school and community, earning many awards as a star equestrian and also the most outstanding citizen award in high school.
She attended UNC - Chapel Hill, studying political science and English. A great job opportunity took her to Boston, where she not only developed a love for New England, but also rose quickly in her company to vice president of Old Republic Title Insurance, early in her career. She had a zest for life, adventure, people, and especially animals.
In her thirties she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease; she always tried to maintain a positive attitude despite the many health trials and illnesses that followed throughout her life.
She was blessed to find her husband Scott in the midst of her health challenges later in life. Together they were able to travel to many places around the world, including her beloved vacation (and wedding) destination of St. John. She was a fierce lover of people, a cheerleader to her friends and family, a skilled athlete and skier, a quick wit with a sharp mind, and she had an unmatched love for and ability to communicate with animals. She found most joy in her associations with her animals, family, and friends.
She is survived by her husband Scott; step-sons, Brad and Eric; mother-in-law Edna Landry; brother, Tom (Thomasa) Lyon; nieces, Julianne (Michael) Lewis and Shannon (Mitch) Cornelius; and her honorary mother Barbara Clark. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Melissa's honor to the New Hampshire Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (NHSPCA) (nhspca.org / 603-772-2921). Memorial service to be held at a later date.
