Michael S. Houston

July 30, 1959 — December 10, 2025

Bedford

Michael S. Houston (aka Bidnit), 66, of Bedford passed away on Wed, 12/10/25 after a long illness.

Mike was born in Derry, NH on July 30, 1959. He grew up and attended school in Manchester before entering the workforce starting out at Crystal Cleaners Laundry Mat where he met Doreen who would end up being his partner for life. From there he went on to work at Carol Cable as a packer before moving on and entering the HVAC trade as an inside salesman for the next 37 years. Initially starting with Air Purchases of NH he also worked several years for The Granite Group before coming full circle by returning to Air Purchases of NH. In January 2025, Mike retired and began settling into his new life as a retiree.

As a young adult Mike spent a lot of time camping at Calef Lake Campground in Auburn, NH with his family. He could often be found at the horseshoe pits taking part in tournaments or hanging out at his seasonal site with friends and family listening to music. As he got older, he settled into more of a homebody, but enjoyed his weekly outings of playing pool at the PAC (where he was a lifetime member) with his brothers. Saturday nights were dedicated to “high stakes poker” playing for quarters, darts, arcade bowling, or hanging out on the porch listening to music. He also enjoyed “family fun nights” sitting around the table doing scratch tickets. Always a family man, he loved hosting barbeques and being the life of the party. He was known to be a joker and was not at all bashful about singing, dancing, or causing a scene in front of the crowd if it meant making others laugh and have a good time.

In his retirement he discovered a new love for baking and was trying new recipes every week. He loved his dogs and would always cook extra to make sure they got their share. He was a Boston Bruins fan. He loved animals and wanted to save them all. He went out every morning to feed stray cats and scatter birdseed and peanuts throughout the backyard. He loved his home and took a lot of pride in keeping a nice lawn and his annual garden.

Mike had a very big heart and was a “give you the shirt off his back” kind of person. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. And, as he said in his last message to his wife… “he loves you all”, too.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Doreen Guild; his son Walter Guild Jr of Claremont and his daughter Mandy Houston of Bedford; four older brothers: Herbert (Skeet) Houston and his wife Pat of Manchester, David Houston of Manchester, Gary Houston and his wife Carole of Florida, Richard Houston of Manchester and three sisters: Willie Mae Lyle and her husband Tim of New York, Cindy Houston and her husband Bob of Manchester, and Tami Houston and her husband Dan of Bow; three granddaughters and one great-grandson; and a large extended family consisting of many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father Herbert Houston, mother Geraldine Houston (Wight), and sister Brenda Houston who passed away at birth.
