Michael R. Smith, 68, of Manchester, NH died February 23, 2026 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Manchester on January 6, 1958, he was the son of Harold and Alice (Boisclair) Smith. He graduated from Memorial High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of New Hampshire.
Prior to his illness, he spent his career working as a mechanical engineer designing machinery. He took great pride in his work and was given opportunities to work both locally and abroad. He most recently was employed by Textiles Coated International since 2010.
Michael loved coaching his kid’s recreational and travel soccer teams. He enjoyed woodworking and house projects. He especially enjoyed being asked to help others with their projects, and never shied away from lending a hand or teaching someone a skill. He loved spending time at the shooting range and on his sailboat. He enjoyed many vacations with his family. Above all else, he enjoyed spending his time surrounded by his loved ones.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Karen (Pollock) Smith of Manchester, NH; his son, Ian Smith and fiancée Brooke Van Gurp of Manchester, NH; his daughter, Ainsley (Smith) and husband Anthony Petroski of Northwood, NH; his grandson, Owen Petroski of Northwood, NH; his sister, Barbara DiVenuti of Manchester, NH; brother, Ronald Smith and wife Dianne (Muncy) of Bristol, CT; many nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Nellie and Brandie. He was predeceased by his sister; Dianne Smith of Nashua, NH.
Calling hours at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, NH will be Monday, 3/2/26 from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, 3/3/26 at 10 am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, corner of Hemlock and Webster Streets. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to support Darbster Dog Animal Rescue, or a foundation of your choice.
