Mildred F. (Stevens) Carr-Wallace, 83, of Manchester, NH died December 3, 2005 at a local nursing facility.
She was born on June 28, 1922 in Boston, MA, the daughter of John and Myra (Proctor) Stevens. She was raised in Newmarket and Durham and graduated from Dover, N.H. High School in 1940. She graduated from Waltham Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and was a registered nurse in hospitals in MA, CT, and RI. In 1944, she married Matthew Carr "D.V.M." of Torrington, CT.
They raised their five children in Hingham, Scituate, and Plymouth, MA. During these years, she was known as "Stevie" and worked as a private duty nurse for many prominent people on the South Shore.
After many happy and exciting years with Matt ("Life with me won't be dull, Stevie"), she was widowed in 1992. Three years later, after having met her high school sweetheart, John Wallace, at their reunion, Mildred and Jack were married in 1995 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Manchester.
Stevie (now also "Millie") and Jack (who was also widowed with a family) spent their precious years together making many happy memories with their extended family. Whether it was going on one the their many bus trips, taking a cruise with their family, or simply going out to eat together, Millie and Jack had a love of life that was contagious to all around them. Millie enjoyed travel, music, and cooking for her family. She was a wonderful cook and each family member had a favorite "Millie recipe" that she took pleasure in making for them.
Throughout her illness, Millie never lost her sense of humor and her deep love for her husband and family. She is now re-united in the company of loved ones who have gone before, and the memories taken from her by her disease are all restored. We, her family, will always have our memories of Millie to share- a funny story or a moment so special that it always brings a tear. She was predeceased by her husband Matthew Carr in 1992.
Members of her family include her husband, Jack Wallace of Rochester, NH; two sons, Daniel Carr and Peter Carr, both of Scituate, MA; three daughters, Kathleen Psirogianis of Manchester, NH, Maureen Zucker of Scituate, MA, and Elizabeth Davis of Plymouth, MA; two stepchildren, Sheila Wallace and Jackie Wallace, both of Rochester, NH; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial followed on Wednesday December 7, 2005 in St. Catherine Church. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
