Millicent Danais

d. April 1, 2004

Millicent (Ellms) Danais, longtime resident of Manchester, died on April 1st following some years of declining health. She was born and educated in Gloucester, Massachusetts and established a successful interior decorating business in Westport, Connecticut. She moved to Manchester in the mid-1950s to marry her beloved Conrad Danais, Esq., who preceded her in death, as did her parents and brother.

Milli applied her considerable talent to the transformation of the recreation building of the Carpenter house into a charming home where for decades she entertained with great style the Danais' many friends. She was a member and president (1966-1967) of the Manchester Garden Club, acknowledged by many to be among the city's most successful gardeners. A painter herself, she was a longtime supporter of the Currier Art Gallery. In addition she was a volunteer with the Elliot Hospital Associates and, with her husband, an enthusiastic traveler, enjoying several extended cruises annually. Milli was a generous philanthropist to a number of local institutions including Saint Anselm College where a student residence hall is named in honor of her and husband.

She is survived by members of Conrad Danais' family, her dear neighbors, and many friends. Among her recent friends were members of the staff of the Courville at Manchester who attended to her needs with great care and concern.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday April 5, 2004 at the Saint Anselm Abbey Church on the campus of Saint Anselm College.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Saint Anselm College, addressed to the President's Office, Saint Anselm College, 100 Saint Anselm Drive, Manchester, NH 03102-1310.
