Monique C. Marihugh

d. January 24, 2019

Monique Cecile (Blais) Marihugh, 78, of Manchester, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019. She had congestive heart failure.

Monique was born in Epping, NH to Electa (Bourdage) Blais and Alcide Blais. She went to St. Augustine Grammar School and St. Anthony High School. In 1959, she married Leonard Plante. Together, they had three children. For most of the 1960s and early '70s, Monique was a working mother at home, raising her children and overseeing food preparation for her husband's canteen business. Once her children were in school, she went to work for Travelers Insurance, where she was an executive secretary to the group sales department manager for roughly 12 years. There, she met David Marihugh, whom she married in 1987. After Travelers Insurance, she worked for Amoskeag Bank from 1988 until 1992, and then she worked for Saint Anselm College for six years. She finished out her career at the Manchester School District as assistant to the director of human resources until she retired in 2004.

Monique was a volunteer for the Democratic Party and the American Red Cross. She enjoyed reading, movies, theater, opera, and all of the arts. She knitted and crocheted, creating dozens of animal blankets, many of which she donated to animal shelters and to family and friends for their own pets. She enjoyed organizing family-style dinners to bring together her siblings and friends.

In addition to her husband David, she is survived by: her daughter Janice Plante and son-in-law Dr. Rodman "Rocket" Getchell; son Dr. Daniel Plante and daughter-in-law Dr. Ranjini Thaver; son Steve Plante and daughter-in-law Brenda (Thomas) Plante; four grandchildren – Anicka Plante, Devon Plante, Vishnu Thaver, and Amanda Plante; and one great grandchild, Lorelei Plante. She had three stepdaughters: Susan, Holly, and Cheryl.

Five siblings also survive her: Roger Blais (and Danielle); Ronald Blais (and Pauline); Jeannette Dion (and Guy); Robert Blais (and Rose); and Anita "Marie" Blais.

The immediate family gathered on Sunday, January 27, 2019 to celebrate Monique's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made "in memory of Monique Marihugh" to: Home, Health & Hospice Care, 210 Naticook Rd., Merrimack, NH 03054.
