Muriel A. Normand

September 11, 1943 — June 15, 2023

Windham

Muriel Annette (Chabot) Normand, 79, of Windham passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023.

Born in Manchester on September 11, 1943, she was the only child of Edward and Annette (Dupuis) Chabot. Raised in Manchester, “Muri” was a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School and of the Notre Dame School of Nursing, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of New Hampshire and her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Muriel dedicated her professional life to nursing and maternal nursing administration, especially as the Manager of The Birth Place at the Southern New Hampshire Regional Medical Center (formerly Nashua Memorial Hospital) and as a nursing and administrative consultant for Cardinal Health. Having spoken French in her childhood and in elementary school, she later developed a passion for French-Canadian genealogy and became a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the American-Canadian Genealogical Society, in Manchester, serving a term as President. She learned and recorded her 1,024 most recent ancestors—they were all français.

With her loving husband of fifty-seven years, André R. Normand, Muriel loved spending time in Lincoln, New Hampshire, and at the beaches in New Hampshire and Maine, and traveling throughout New England, Quebec, and much of Europe. She also loved spending time with Donald and Kathleen Perkins, of Manchester, and their children, Carol, Tim, Patty, Celia, Paul, and John; with her nursing school classmates; and with her longtime neighbors in Windham, where she and André made their home for the last fifty years, especially Kay Enwright and Sue Katsekas; and with her lifelong friend Muriel Fredericksson.

Muriel was an avid fan of crosswords and sudoku—and was good at them. She was an excellent cook, to the delight of family and friends who benefitted from her interest in trying new recipes. She survived two rounds of breast cancer. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while working full-time, meeting the primary responsibility for raising three children, and cooking supper for the family. She was, to the benefit of countless parents, an expert with babies. She sewed costumes for her grandchildren. She was smart, opinionated, funny, and tough.

She will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, Mémère, and friend. Her surviving family members include her husband, André; her children, Peter Normand, of Manchester; Edward Normand, of Bronxville, New York; and Andrea (Normand) Munoz, of Manchester; her daughter-in-law, Sarah Normand, and son-in-law, John Munoz; her grandchildren, Parker, Anna, William, Catherine, and Leah; Parker’s mother, Japa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery will be private the family’s convenience.
