She was born at home May 3, 1934, the daughter of Florus and Doris Knox Additon. She attended Leavitt Institute in Turner, ME graduating in 1951; while attending school, she was the Captain of her basketball team.
She married John R. Pettengill, Jr. April 4, 1953 in Leeds, ME. When her children were little, she was a Den Mother and also made and sold wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes. After her children were grown, she went to work at Hood's Mailing & Printing for many years; she later went to work for the State of Maine, Motor Vehicle Division, where she worked for 10 years.
Nedra had been on a bowling league in Lewiston and was a member of the Maine State Employees Retirement Association.
She loved to bake, go for rides, dancing, camping, especially the campfires, traveling to Prince Edward Island, Canada, Florida, Moosehead and Quebec, Canada. She also loved family gatherings, especially the holidays.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and companion.
She is survived by a son, Brody Pettengill and his wife, Kimberly, of Leeds, ME; a daughter, Cindy Pfaff and her husband, Terence, of Hooksett, NH; five grandsons, Todd, Travis, Jacob, Trevor and Tyler; three great grandchildren, Blake, Adriana and Isabelle; two sisters, Norrice Smith and Paula Mulherin and her husband, James, all of Leeds; and her companion, Augustive "Gus" Hood, of Leeds. She was predeceased by her husband John R. Pettengill, Jr. in 1993.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Bragdon Finley Funeral Home. Burial was in the spring at Leeds Cemetery, Leeds, ME.
Lambert Funeral Home, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, assisted the family with local arrangements.
