Normand J. Doucet

July 7, 1931 — February 7, 2025

Manchester

Normand J. Doucet passed away peacefully at home with his family February 7, 2025 after a period of declining health.

Born on July 7, 1931, in Franklin, NH, to Eloi and Marie-Louise (Larochelle) Doucet. He attended Franklin NH School, graduating in 1949 from Franklin High School. Normand then headed to New York City to attend the Megenthaler Linotype School, working part-time at Radio City Music Hall as an usher. After completing linotype school, he took his first job as a linotype operator with the Alamosa News in Alamosa, Colorado.

Inducted into the Army in 1952, Normand attended basic training at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and served in Germany for 16 months with the 109th Combat Engineers as a demolition expert. After his service, he got a job in Boston, MA, at the Spaulding-Moss Company, where he learned to operate the Fotosetter (a photographic typesetting machine). In the summer of 1958, he returned to NH and the linotype machine with Southern NH Typesetting Corporation in Concord, NH. When Southern NH Typesetting Corporation closed in 1972, Normand was employed with Yankee Typesetters, also in Concord, until his retirement in 2000, working part-time as a computer typesetter for the last 10 years.

Normand married Lorraine Pare in August 1959 at St. Augustin Church in Manchester, NH. He and Lorraine were the proud parents of four sons. Normand was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus with Council No. 5163 in Manchester, NH. He was an excellent tennis player and enjoyed squash and ping-pong. Normand loved books, both typesetting and reading them. No one was a bigger Red Sox fan. He loved gardening and growing things, including shrubs, trees, and flowers. He enjoyed family gatherings, going to baseball games with his boys, and vacationing on the Maine coast with Lorraine. Normand was very proud of his boys and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine Doucet of Manchester; his sons, Joseph Doucet and his wife Mary-Elizabeth, Marc Doucet and his wife Liza, John Doucet and his wife Meghan Lynch; along with many grandchildren and their families. He was predeceased by his son James and his sisters Eloise Doucet and Louise Beal. Special thanks to the wonderful team from Home Health and Hospice, Jane, Elliot, and Scott.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14th at 11 am in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester. Burial will follow in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
