Paul F. Carew

d. January 1, 2016

Paul F. Carew, a longtime resident of Manchester, died peacefully at the age of 89 on January 1, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 1, 1926, Paul was the fifth of ten children born to Joseph and Catherine (McCormick) Carew. The Carew family lived in Hingham, MA until moving to Warner, NH and then settling in Deering, NH.

Paul proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following his service, he worked at the Hornstra Dairy Farm in Hingham, MA. He then returned to Deering and helped to establish and run his family's business, the Deering Ski Tow, as well as attended New England College in Henniker, NH.

In 1957 he began his career as a salesman for Moore Business Forms. It was at this time that he met his wife of forty-five years, Beverly Ryan. They settled on the west side of Manchester where they raised their eight children.

Paul loved life and cherished time with family. Not a family gathering went by without music filling the air, and Irish music would always put a twinkle in his eye. In the summer, from early morning until dusk, you would find Paul in his backyard pursuing his passion for vegetable gardening; his abundant harvest was enjoyed by all. Preparing his woodpiles for the winter months provided warm days spent with family by the woodstove fire.

Faith was the center of Paul's life. He was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Parish and served there as an usher. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly (Ryan) and a son, Paul R. Carew, both in 2002; and by six siblings: Thomas, Robert, Jack, Richard, Catherine Sullivan, and Marie Gianni.

He is survived by seven children, Anne Lamontagne, husband Roger, of Manchester, Colleen Sylvia of Oak Bluffs, MA, Martha Moulton, husband Rory, of Merrimack, Patricia Carew of Londonderry, Mary Gifford, husband George, of Goffstown, Timothy Carew, spouse Paul Cappucci, of Milton, MA and Sharon Carew of Manchester; sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three siblings, Joseph Carew of Sterling, MA, Dr. James Carew of CA and Anne Carew of Goffstown; cousins and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Ste. Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Ave., Manchester. Committal prayers followed at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NH, 166 S. River Rd., Suite 210, Bedford, NH 03110.
