Paul J. Cody, 91, of Manchester, died at Catholic Medical Center, April 24, 2018, following a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 2, 1926 in Revere, MA, he was the son of Michael F. and Julia L. (Cooney) Cody. He was a graduate of Revere High School before joining the US Army, where he served in the South Pacific during WWII. Paul was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class in 1946. He worked as Quality Control and Plant Superintendent for HP Hood & Sons in Charlestown, MA for 42 years before retiring in 1988.
Paul loved spending time traveling and enjoyed bowling. He was also an avid New England sports fan. He was a long time member of Henry J. Sweeney Post 2 and Legion of 1000 Men -Sisters of the Precious Blood. He was an active communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi church. Paul was a kind hearted, warm and welcoming man who was deeply devoted to his family, faith, and country. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Family includes his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara (Mace) Cody of Manchester; three daughters, Susan George and husband James of Manchester, Paula Cote and husband Roger of Ft. Collins, CO, and Denise McGlone and husband Philip of Manchester; two sons, Deacon Kevin Cody and wife Therese of Manchester, and Brian Cody of Ft. Collins, CO; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one sister, Jean Lavoie of Salem, MA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Spiewak, son in-law John Spiewak, granddaughter Samantha, six brothers; and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St., Manchester. Committal prayers with military honors followed in the mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry, 14 Elm St. Manchester, 03103 or Boston Children's Hospital Trust, 401 Park Dr., Suite 602, Boston, MA 02115.
