Pauline E. (Welch) Stelmack, 86, of Manchester died July 1, 2004 at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Community after a long illness.
Born in Manchester on August 22, 1917, she was the daughter of Harry and Mary (Sullivan) Welch. She lived in Manchester most of her life.
During World War II she was one of the first persons from New Hampshire to serve in the US Army with the Women's Army Corps. She was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Mrs. Stelmack had worked as a hairdresser for several years. She had also been a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ladies Guild and the American Association of Retired Persons.
She enjoyed music, oil painting and time spent with her family.
She was predeceased by a son, Paul J. Stelmack in 1987 and his wife, Dolores "Dolly" (Gill) Stelmack in June of this year.
The family includes her husband of 60 years, Felix J. Stelmack of Manchester; three children, Linda J. Healy of Manchester, Mark J. Stelmack of Gorham, ME and Cynthia A. Smith of Manchester; eight grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Welch of Nokomis, FL; three sisters, Esther DeRoberts of Elmsford, NY, Ruth Lemieux of Kingman, AZ and Mary Fishman of Peteluma, CA; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday July 6, 2004 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, corner of Cypress and Hayward streets, Manchester. Burial with full military honors was held in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
