Pearl I. Martin

Pearl I. (Smith) Martin, 87, longtime resident of Manchester, passed away January 17, 2019 at Catholic Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Concord, NH on July 22, 1931, she was the daughter of Frank L. and Josephine (MacClellan) Smith. She graduated from Concord High School in 1949 and has been an active alumna of the school for the past 70 years, helping organize numerous reunions. She attended the University of NH SOCS for Library Science as well as attended Lebanon College for Office Practices. She also had attended numerous art classes at the Currier Gallery of Art.
Prior to retirement she had been the Administrative Assistant for the NH House Appropriations Committee for 11 years. Previously, she had been employed by numerous agencies and companies including the State of NH Department of Public Welfare in Concord, the US Government Office of Price Stabilization, the Office of the US Attorney in Concord, and had been employed by Shopping International in Norwich VT.
She married the love of her life, Atty John R. Martin on June 1, 1957 at the Church of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Concord.
Pearl had resided in numerous places during her long life including Concord, Falls Church, VA, Vienna, VA, Norwich, VT for 11 years, and had spent the past 41 years in Manchester.
Pearl was a devoted member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Manchester, NH for 41 years. She was an active member of the Granite State Ambassadors and had received many awards for her service. She enjoyed joining NH's Governor on annual "Shake Down Cruises" on Lake Winnipesaukee. She loved to golf and was a longtime member of Derryfield Country Club and the NHWGA. She enjoyed bowling and when her children were young and was active in both the Boys' and Girls' Scouts. She served on the Norwich Fair Committee as well as St. Frances Parish Council, both in Norwich, VT. She also was a poll clerk for the town of Norwich.
Above all else she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished time with family.
Her husband, John R. Martin predeceased her on June 29th, 1996.
Family members include two children, Maureen Hager and husband Jeffrey of Berwyn, PA, John Martin and wife Allison of Manchester; Grandchildren Meagan Nordhoff, Colleen Armstrong, Brendan Hagar, Jillian Martin and Caroline Hager. Siblings predeceased included James Smith, Robert Smith and Barbara Brown. Those still with us are Doris Morrill, Frank Smith, Jean Hansen and Carol Carlson. Pearl was very proud of her 7 Great Grandchildren and 15 nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 26, 2019 in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Webster Street. Committal prayers followed in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.
