Peter D. Farwell, 87, died peacefully on March 25, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving and adoring family. Peter was born on December 15, 1938 in Littleton, NH to the late Porter and Mary (Stare) Farwell.
Peter grew up in Lac Megantic, Quebec before moving to Wilmington, Vermont. Peter graduated from Stanstead College where he made many lifelong friends. He later attended the University of Vermont, majoring in electrical engineering. Peter honorably served in the United States Air Force which took him from Korea to Alaska to Wall, South Dakota, again accumulating dear friends along the way. He married the love of his life, Mary Jacobs, in 1966, and they settled in Manchester, NH, and eventually Hooksett, where they raised their two children, David and Robin.
Peter spent his career as an electrical engineer for New England Telephone Company. After his retirement from Verizon, he became a private consultant for telecommunication contractors.
Peter was involved in various volunteer roles in the town of Hooksett, including coaching his children in youth sports and serving as a member of the Hooksett Parks and Recreation Committee, Hooksett Village Water Precinct and the Hooksett Men's Club. He coached for many years in the Manchester Regional Youth Hockey Association and served as a trustee for the Brookside Congregational Church. He tirelessly assisted his wife Mary during their many years of coordinating the Salvation Army efforts in Hooksett. Peter was always willing to volunteer his time and to lend a hand.
Peter spent his summers on Lake Winnipausauke where he and Mary welcomed family and friends into their home in Meredith. It was the gathering spot where family came together and many happy memories were made. He spent his retirement chasing after grandchildren at the lake, teaching them how to fish and boat, and following their many athletic events and interests. One of his favorite activities was bringing the grandchildren out to the local diners for breakfast. Peter ensured that ice cream and cider donuts were summer staples at the lake house.
Peter was a devoted husband, proud father and adoring grandfather. He took tremendous joy in watching his children and grandchildren flourish. Seeing his grandchildren smile and hearing their infectious laughter brought him immense happiness. His love for his family was boundless and unwavering. He was the eternal optimist, and was always generous with his kindness and a smile. Peter saw only good in everyone he met.
His family includes his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary; his son David and his wife, Dominique, of Reading, MA, and their children, Matthew, Meghan and Ryan; his daughter Robin Schuh and her husband, Dennis, of New Canaan, CT, and their four daughters, Caroline, Emma, Isabelle and Phoebe; his sister, Patricia Koehler, of Rex, GA; his sister-in-law, Maryann Jacobs of North Attleboro, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
