Peter was born on March 12, 1949 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Dr. George W. Koster and Patricia Byrnes Koster, two people he referred to many times as the best parents in the world.
Peter attended St. Mark’s school while in Kenosha and remembered Kenosha fondly where he engaged in competitive bicycle racing, exploring Lake Michigan, and all the beautiful areas there. He always felt he left a piece of his heart in Kenosha.
The family moved to NH when he was a teenager. He graduated from Hollis High School in NH in 1968. After high school he traveled extensively and owned and operated various businesses. He worked in the woods as a logger, furniture designer/builder, antique dealer, a woodworker/ folk artist traveling throughout the east coast for his work, and much more.
Peter was a political activist and a committed environmentalist to include volunteering for the rescue of seals in Maine. He was a registered Maine recreational guide for backpacking, canoeing, and trekking. He was also a licensed federal wilderness backcountry guide specializing in southern swamp environments, primarily in the rivers and everglades of Florida and Georgia. Peter enjoyed extreme rock climbing in the Native American reservations out west. He was an avid downhill skier and explored the volcanoes and glaciers of Iceland with a former Miss Iceland.
Peter’s travels included going to Australia, Iceland, South America, and all across this country. In his youth he also attended Woodstock and said it was quite an experience. You could say he lived his bucket list.
Peter was a very friendly and sociable guy who seemed to draw people close to him. He also loved his pets over the years, especially the golden retrievers that he bred but would only give the pups to family and friends.
Peter was predeceased by his parents and his brother John Koster. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Connarn and her husband Bill, his sister, Lorraine Meuse and her husband Bob, his brother, James Koster and his wife Kathy, his brother, George Koster and his wife Rhonda, and a son, Peter J. Koster, Jr. and nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by the many friends who loved him dearly, especially Nicky, Cassie, Ellen, Katie, Nina, and Nick to name a few. Peter will be greatly missed by all who truly knew him.
