Philip E. Barnes, 96, of Manchester, NH, died peacefully on September 30, 2025, at RiverWoods Retirement Community.

Born in Teaneck, NJ on March 12, 1929, his birth mother was the late Anna LaForce Barnes, and he was raised by the late Charles Earle and Louie Farrant Barnes.

Philip graduated in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Perdue University. He served in the Air Force based out of Laramie, WY from 1951 to 1952. He worked for the Hamilton Standard division of United Technologies as a Senior Design Project Engineer for 34 years. He holds 24 patents in hydromechanical controls and actuators.

He was a devoted family man, caring and providing for his wife and sons; always eager to hear the latest family news and provide guidance and wisdom from his own experiences.

He actively enjoyed tennis, sailing, woodworking, and had a general love for the outdoors. He is remembered for his remarkable ability in designing, building, and maintaining homes and boats over the years. His practical skills reflect a family tradition passed down from his grandfather and father and are carried on by his sons. He was a member of the Moultonborough United Methodist Church, Moultonborough Historical Society, and numerous Conservation groups in the NH lakes region.

Family includes three sons, Jeffery E. Barnes and wife Sallie of Shipman, VA, Steven L. Barnes and wife Mary of Richmond, RI, and James L. Barnes and wife Charlene of Westerly, RI; five grandchildren, Maria, Leah, Stephanie, Jessica, and Kimberly; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Sandra F. Barnes of Manchester, NH.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A committal service will be held at a future date in West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Lakes Region Conservation Trust, PO Box 766, 156 Dane Road, Center Harbor, NH 03226.
