Philip J. Callanan

March 7, 1966 — May 30, 2018

Philip John Callanan, 52, of Hopkinton, NH died suddenly May 30, 2018.
Born in Methuen, MA on March 7, 1966, he was the son of Joseph A. and Margaret (Morris) Callanan and he was married to his very own Pam Beasley, Kelly Callanan. He had earned his bachelor's degree from the former Notre Dame College in Manchester and received his master's degree from Antioch College.
Phil spent over two decades in the education profession. His compassion for all students was evident every day in the halls and classrooms of Mill Brook, Parker-Varney, Towle School, Richards Elementary, Webster School and McLaughlin Middle School. His leadership skills and ability to make sure everyone felt heard, respected and valued was superior.
He will be remembered as an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all New England sports teams, NASCAR racing and especially watching a family favorite, The Office. He loved the beach and going surfing with his boys. His love for fixing things up around the house with his father in law was something he enjoyed very much. Above all else, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle who cherished spending time with his children and watching his girl Lucy shine on stage. Lucy says she, "loves him to the moon and back and he is the greatest member of our family!" Paisley wants everyone to know, " I love you very much Daddy!"
The last few years have been a struggle for Phil and this took its toll on him. Mental illness is not something to hide. It's something that needs to be out there where we can all be open to helping the people who need us most. As a family we want nothing more than people to realize that Phil was an incredible man who was also haunted by this battle with depression. Please know that it's ok to talk to someone if you feel alone. Reach out if you notice someone who is crying for help. Don't let this disease take someone else's loved one away. We all have power to make a change so let's do this in his memory.
Family members include his wife, Kelly (Rogers) Callanan of Hopkinton; his children, Nathan and Ethan Callanan of Bedford, Lucy and Paisley Callanan of Hopkinton; his mother, Margaret Callanan of Concord; his siblings, Joseph A. Callanan and wife Meredith of Arnold, MD, Robert M. Callanan and wife Cara of Marblehead, MA, Ruth M. McKee and husband John of Massapequa, NY, James Callanan and wife Sarah of St. Johnsbury, VT; In laws William and Karen Rogers of Manchester, NH; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at a time convenient for the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to "The Lucy and Paisley Scholarship Fund", 373 S. Willow St., PMB 182, Manchester, NH 03103
