Raymond W. Hamel Jr., D.D.S., 82, of Bedford, NH, died August 18, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Lawrence, MA, July 18, 1923, and was a son of Raymond W. Hamel Sr., and Marie (Fecteau) Hamel. He was raised in Lawrence, MA and had been a Bedford, NH resident most of his life.
Dr. Hamel served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA. He later graduated from St. Anselm College in Goffstown, NH and from Georgetown University School of Dentistry, Washington, D.C. He practiced dentistry in Manchester for 38 years.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, the NH Dental Society, and was a past president of the Manchester Dental Society. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a longtime communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Bedford, NH.
Family members include his wife of 51 years, Mildred (Brouillet) Hamel of Bedford, NH; a son, Dr. Michael R. Hamel of Laconia, NH a daughter, Susan M. Hamel of Bedford, NH; three grandchildren; Megan Hamel, Julie Hamel, and Nicholas Hamel; a sister, Pauline Dion of Methuen, MA; a brother, Roland Hamel of New York City; nieces and nephews.
The funeral was in the funeral home Saturday August 20, 2005. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
