He was born in Manchester on April 11, 1928, the son of Thomas and Florida (Bellerose) Martel. Raymond attended St. Edmunds School, in Manchester and worked as a laborer, for 45 years, with Remi Fortin Construction. Raymond was a veteran of Army and National Guard, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Raymond's hobbies included wood working, camping, cooking and helping others, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also a proud of his Abanaki Indian heritage.
He leaves three sons, Raymond J. Martel, Jr. and wife Robin, of FL, Roger A. Martel, of Manchester and Robert P. Martel and wife Denise, of Manchester; a daughter, Doreen Guild, of Bedford; eleven grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; two sisters, Dora Raymond and Cecile Rogers; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Raymond is predeceased by his wife Marie A. (Goudreault) Martel, who passed away on August 15, 2013; by his daughter Lucille Perron, April 2013; three brothers, Sam, Ralph and Roger Martel; and four sisters, Germaine Bussiere, Jeanne Therrien, Marie Therrien and Rita Bilodeau.
Services were held on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
