Regina M. Marcoux

Regina M. (Fries) Marcoux, 88, of Manchester died April 28, 2010 at Hanover Hill Nursing Home after a brief, but valiant, battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Germany on May 11, 1921, she was the daughter of Georg and Louisa Fries. She enjoyed memories of a pre-war childhood in Germany, then survived incredible trauma during World War II. Her education included teaching from the chemist Marie Curie at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. She emigrated to the United States with her daughter, Florence, in 1958.

She received her certificate of high school equivalency in 1975 and attended courses at Hesser College.

Mrs. Marcoux worked at New Hampshire Insurance Company and Hillsborough County Courthouse, both in Manchester for many years. She retired in 2004.

She was married to Bertrand J. Marcoux who died in 1976.

IN HER LIFE: She enjoyed knitting beautiful hats, sweaters and mittens for her granddaughter and great grandchildren, and mending broken zippers and torn clothing with her sewing machine. She also enjoyed bingo with her friends at the O'Malley apartments, and family gatherings with her daughter and extended family.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Apollonia, Emma, Anna and Walter.

The family includes two children, Florence Hamlin and her husband, Scott, of Manchester and Walter Fries and his wife, Martha, of Germany; grandchildren, Philip and Silke Fries, and Elizabeth Bemis; a step granddaughter, Donna Hamlin; a special great grandchild, Tyler Bemis and his siblings, Brian, Justin, Sebastian, Aiden, Alexander and Dylan; a brother, Rudolph Fries of Germany.

The family will miss her very determined customs and traditions, along with her wonderful German accent that kept everyone at attention.

A funeral ceremony was held Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester. Private interment was at Pine Grove Mausoleum, Calef Rd., Manchester at the convenience of the family.
