He was born in Treptow, Germany on June 28, 1929 to Ernst and Frieda (Runge) Kleinschmidt. He lived for many years in Germany and Manchester.
The family includes his wife of 57 years, Karin (Timm) Kleinschmidt of Manchester; a brother, Kurt Kleinschmidt of Germany and nieces and nephews.
